Grade 8
Math - The Grade 8s are now working on perimeter and area of rectangles and triangles and will be writing a test today. From there we will move on to circles and then volume, with perhaps a little surface area sprinkled in for good measure. This unit is heavily formula-based, so please ask your child if they have their book of exemplars up-to-date. Next week we will have a quiz on circles (probably on Wednesday) and probably wrap up the unit the following week.
Social Studies - This week we continued to look at naming conventions in New Brunswick and we will have one final activity on this next week. I also took the time to book a field trip to the Meduxnekeag River Preserve for Thursday, May 16th so that we can go fiddleheading! This is a tradition in my family and I am thrilled that students will get to experience it. We'll be doing some education beforehand about the preserve and fiddleheading so that students know what to do.
Other - Finally, a couple of other items. I would be remise to talk about our trip the AYR Motor Centre Field House on Wednesday, which went very well. I received comments from the staff about how respectful the class was and they were impressed when students picked up and put away the materials at the end of our session. I am so proud of the way they represented our class and school! The other item is just a reminder that the Grade 8 trip and year-end activities are on the horizon, so please touch base with your students to make sure that they are in good standing both academically and behaviorally as I would hate for any of them to miss out on these events.
Grade 7
Math - The Grade 7s wrote their provincial exam on Tuesday and I was impressed with their dedication to the task. Most students took their time and did their best, something that I appreciate. On Thursday we started into some new material, looking at how to perform translations (move a shape on a coordinate place) and next week we will continue by looking at reflections and rotations. My goal is to do a couple of quizzes by next Friday and wrap up the unit with a test early the following week.
Social Studies - This week we continued to look at naming conventions in New Brunswick and we will have one final activity on this next week. Due to other events we only had the one period this week, but hopefully next week we can get back to a more regular schedule.
Have a very Harry day!
